Humbird – After traversing 5 continents and 20 countries with only a guitar and a backpack, Humbird returns home to sing songs from the edge of the world. Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale, Humbird stretches traditional genres of folk and Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house, it leaves breadcrumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars. Creating music out of a mosaic of influences like Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver and Bill Frisell, Humbird weaves it all together with powerful lyrics and a stubborn pursuit of the sound of the North. The release of Humbird’s double EP “Elsewhere” and “Where Else” in Summer 2017 is just the beginning.
Seasaw – Meg Golz and Eve Wilczewski started as co-workers, slowly courted each other into best friendship, and then magically into music-making conspirators – all along, guiding the ship that is their indie-pop duo Seasaw. Without every piece of this musical history together, it would have been impossible for them to create their release, Big Dogs. Harnessing their team dynamic, the creation of this album demanded Seasaw be brutally honest and experimental with each other. This process allowed them to create Big Dogs, a wildly imaginative departure from their previous work that features lush soundscapes and powerful lyrical choices. The album’s title Big Dogs is taken from the ridiculous and self-assigned name that some people in power give themselves, and the duo’s message is a sonically beautiful rejection of this outdated term, as well as a response the the world around them in 2018. Seasaw has performed alongside Lucius, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Har Mar Superstar, Shakey Graves and many others. Big Dogs will be available on CD, LP and digitally on September 7th, 2018.
Luke Callen – Luke Callen is a hard-driving, finger-style guitar picker originally from the small river town of La Crosse, WI-in the heart of the Driftless region. Pulling from the traditions of American folk, blues, and country music, Luke has one foot in the past and one foot in the here and now. Echoing the voices of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and Townes Van Zandt, Luke crafts songs of people, places, and time in all of its forms. From the Mississippi Valley, learning by ear the songs of Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk, to campfires, classrooms, honky tonks and clubs across the country, Luke brings his humble sense of humor and humanity to any ear that will listen. With his guitars, harmonicas, and banjo in tow, Luke has played hundreds of shows spanning both coasts, the American west, south and heartland. He has had the opportunity to provide support for Dom Flemons, River Whyless, Whiskey Shivers, Charlie Parr, Paper Bird, The Lowest Pair, The Last Revel, Lilly Hiatt, and Robbie Fulks among others.
