Halloween in the Coulee Region brings a mix of spooky thrills and festive fun for all ages. From hair-raising haunted houses to cheerful trick-or-treat gatherings and enchanting activities for kids, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate. This year’s lineup is packed with can’t-miss events that will put you right in the Halloween spirit!

House of Shadows

House of Shadows

September 25th through October 31st | Sparta, WI

The House of Shadows is more than just a haunted attraction, it’s an interactive fundraiser supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Sparta. Each year, the “reportedly haunted” former infirmary of the Wisconsin State Child Center is transformed into a spine-chilling haunted house designed to thrill and entertain. For those who prefer a gentler experience, the not-so-scary attraction runs from 5:30-6 p.m. Guests receive a flashlight and a friendly escort from one of our creatures to help guide the way—perfect for kids and the faint-of-heart. If you’re feeling brave, step into the very scary attraction starting at 6 p.m. with ticket sales available until 10 p.m. (or until sold out), you’ll encounter lurking creatures, eerie surprises, and an atmosphere guaranteed to test your courage.

October 10th – November 1st | Stoddard, WI

Walk the property and final home, including the personal possessions of Erlend Norgaard for the scariest Haunted House in the area. Open October 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and November 1. The Haunted House opens at 5p.m. with ticket sales ending at 9 p.m. The Petting Farm/ Haunted House package price is $20.00 per person before 6 p.m. and less scarier options available upon request.

The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is hosting a Spooky Scavenger Hunt for all community members followed by fun activities in the gym including a bounce house! Don’t forget to come in your Halloween Costumes. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18th.

Norskedalen’s Ghoulees in the Coulees returns with its signature haunted hikes from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Guests will journey along wooded trails and through a historic homestead, guided only by moonlight and the flicker of glowing Jack-o’-lanterns. As if the setting weren’t eerie enough, ghosts, ghouls, and other spooky surprises will be waiting to keep the night full of thrills. Helpful guides will lead the way as you discover what—or who—might be lurking around the next corner!

The Bluff Country Tale Spinners will return to the Pump House Regional Arts Center this fall with an evening of eerie tales designed to rattle nerves and spark imaginations. The troupe presents Tales of the Creepy and Scary on Saturday, October 25 at 7 p.m. For centuries, people have whispered ghost stories by firelight and shared them across generations. These tales offered warnings, taught lessons and provided late-night entertainment. Today, the Pump House event carries on that tradition. Audiences will lean in close as storytellers spin narratives that blur the line between the ordinary and the uncanny.
