Help the Horses Who Help Us: HorseSense Hay Drive

Graphic reading “$5 a Day Keeps the Hunger Away” over a snowy pasture featuring HorseSense’s therapy horses.

At HorseSense in Coon Valley, every ride tells a story of connection, where individuals with disabilities discover independence through the life-changing bond they share with a horse. Veterans rediscover trust and calm. Kids and adults alike find confidence, balance, and joy in the saddle.

These magic moments all start with one thing – a healthy, well-fed herd.

Each of HorseSense’s nine therapy horses eats about one bale of hay per day, which means the nonprofit needs to raise $8,000 to cover hay and grain through the long Wisconsin winter. A $5 donation feeds one horse for a day, helping ensure the herd stays strong for the riders who rely on them.

“Our horses are the heart of everything we do,” says Ashley Adams, Director of Advancement at HorseSense. “They help people face fears, build confidence, and find peace. By feeding them, our community is helping to feed that healing work.”

HorseSense programs serve youth, adults, and Veterans of all abilities. They offer adaptive riding, horsemanship, and equine-assisted learning that empower participants to grow and thrive.

All donations are tax-deductible and can be made at horsesensewi.org or through Facebook at @horsesensewi.

This winter, a small gift can make a big impact. When you give hay to a horse at HorseSense, you’re not just feeding an animal – you’re fueling healing, hope, and independence for people right here in our community.
