TREMPEALEAU, Wis. — An Agritourism art exhibit at Elmaro Vineyard will feature the work of local artist Colleen Shore this October. The exhibit, titled Agritourism in Art, presents original oil paintings inspired by farms and vineyards that combine agriculture and tourism.
Inspired by Local and Global Agritourism
Shore’s work reflects three locations. Elmaro Vineyard in Trempealeau has hosted her art for the past four years. She has painted on site, exhibited in the crush pad and spent time with vineyard workers, event staff and visitors. These experiences gave her a close view of how agritourism supports Wisconsin farms.
Her travels abroad also influenced the show. At Poggio Etrusco, a 1600s farmhouse and bed-and-breakfast in Tuscany, Shore captured the olive harvest on canvas. She also joined cooking classes, truffle hunts and cheese tastings. The trip, she said, expanded her perspective on the role of tourism in agriculture.
Closer to home, Shore worked with the family at Ecker’s Apple Farm in Trempealeau County. With their help, she painted the apple blossoms in spring. She said the family’s passion for expanding their orchard beyond traditional U-Pick apples encouraged her to highlight their work in the exhibit.
