LA CROSSE, Wis. — After more than 116 years in business, La Crosse Floral has announced it will close its doors, ending one of the city’s longest-running, family-owned businesses.

Founded May 25, 1908, La Crosse Floral served generations of La Crosse residents. The business became known for its greenhouses, floral arrangements, plants and seasonal décor. For many, it was part of everyday life and family traditions.

Closing Sale Begins Jan. 5

A close-of-business sale begins Monday, Jan. 5, at 9 a.m.

Holiday items are 60% off, including silk Christmas trees and décor. Everyday items are 30% off, including archways, pillars, plant stands, silk florals and containers from the garden center. Plush items, wind chimes and artwork are also included. Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and purchase Abdallah candy before Valentine’s Day.

La Crosse Floral will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the sale.

News of the closing prompted an outpouring of responses on social media. Many shared memories of shopping at La Crosse Floral and the role it played in their lives.

“This business gave me so much happiness,” wrote Vicki Elwood. “The plants I bought years ago are still thriving in my garden. Thank you for all the joy you brought to our community.”

Others recalled visiting the greenhouse as children, working there as students or returning year after year for holidays and life events. Several described the closing as the end of an era for La Crosse.

As the sale begins, customers are invited to visit, shop and say goodbye to a business that has been part of the community for more than a century.
